The business

Our client is a highly regarded, significant tertiary education institution, operating across a number of international and Australian campuses and academic areas. It seeks to add a switched-on senior disputes and administrative lawyer to its high performing in-house team.

The role

The role will suit a skilled and personable lawyer with training gained in a quality law firm, in-house and/or government team. Suited to a lawyer with 4-8 years of experience, the role will attract lawyers with a mix of honed technical skills, evolved interpersonal skills, and the ability to read the play. An integral part of the role will be your direct dealings within the broader institution, involving both professional and academic staff, where you can make the most of your legal and non-legal skills, and be valued for your contribution.

The work will involve a mix of disputes and advice in the area of staff and student conduct and progress, research misconduct and other investigations, Ombudsman matters and related issues. Unlike some in-house litigation roles, you won’t just be shuffling paper here – you will be actively involved in handling claims across administrative law, and investigations/regulatory and discrimination.

The benefits

Our client offers flexible working conditions, including some work from home, a reporting line into a Director, together with autonomy and a mature approach. It offers a professional environment with a collegiate culture, and the team is made up of quality lawyers. It encourages and supports further education, there are no timesheets or budgets, and when you are on campus the facilities are first rate, with a relaxed environment.  It offers secure employment and the chance to become a better lawyer, with career progression available within the large legal team.
