The Role

Global Creatures is looking for an exceptional Senior Lawyer to join our Legal and Business Affairs team. Reporting to the Head of Legal and Business Affairs and with support from our Paralegal, the Senior Lawyer will assist Global Creatures in its activities developing, producing, co-producing, licensing and exploiting theatrical productions of all kinds worldwide, and in dealing with industry leaders across all major theatrical markets and beyond.

The Musical, winner of 10 Tony Awards and the first Australian produced musical to originate on Broadway. The Legal and Business Affairs team is a key part of the Global Creatures group and provides legal project-management, analytical and strategic input in relation to all rights-related matters, and practical legal solutions and business advisory services.

Job description 

The Senior Lawyer will assist in the provision of timely, practical legal and business advisory services.  This includes:

– drafting, negotiating and advising on a variety of agreements and legal issues in connection with the Global Creatures’ assets, including: rights acquisition agreements; licensing agreements; employment and service provider agreements; venue hire agreements; music publishing agreements; royalty management; merchandising agreements; agreements for the supply of goods and services; sponsorship and marketing arrangements as well as ad hoc legal issues which arise;
– collaborating with other members of the team in developing and maintaining legal policies and procedures internationally, and best practice templates, summaries and contract/corporate registers;
– guiding and mentoring our Paralegal;
– assisting with creating and maintaining legal ‘rights’ bibles for each show;
– providing advice on a variety of legal and commercial matters across the business;
– assisting with provision of general legal support to other divisions within the group, including Production, HR, Finance, and Marketing

We are looking for someone who:

– has 8+ years’ experience as a commercial lawyer at a law firm and/or in-house with experience in theatre, entertainment, media and/or performing arts industries;
– is commercially astute and able to think critically and laterally to identify issues and develop practical solutions;
– has expertise in intellectual property and corporate law;
– has an ability to work under pressure, to manage competing priorities and workloads;
– has excellent interpersonal and communication skills to fit in with a diverse and creative environment;
– is proactive, tenacious, collegiate, and able to build good working relationships with others.
