A great opportunity exists at KCL Law for a lawyer with 2-3 years post qualification experience who has a keen interest in pursuing a career in Construction and Infrastructure Law and working in a great and supportive team.
Our experienced Construction and Infrastructure team will work with and train you in all aspects of Construction and Infrastructure Law and help you build your skills and personal network in the industry. You will have the opportunity to work with the partners and have direct client contact. The team is friendly, easy going, passionate about the industry and focused on developing lawyers and building confidence.
Construction and Infrastructure Law is fast paced, dynamic and one of the few industry-based laws in which long lasting client relationships are fostered and you will get the opportunity to work with clients from project inception to delivery and beyond.
In this role, you will get to experience the full spectrum of Construction and Infrastructure Law including transactions, contract drafting and negotiation, project claims consulting, and (if you have interest) litigation of which there is plenty of opportunity. You will be trained in all areas of front-end construction law and project consulting including drafting and negotiating contracts, advising on all aspects of risk allocation, variations, extensions of time, latent / site conditions (claims and assessments) and prolongation and delay damages claims.
Contract types will include tenders, building contracts, consultants’ agreements and deeds. Any experience or exposure to any form of contract drafting and negotiation or contract interpretation will assist you in this aspect of the role.
Areas of litigation in which the team can also build your skills if you choose would include pre-litigation advice and pursuing overseas companies, pleadings and discovery, briefing and instructing Counsel, Senior Counsel and experts and evidence/facts investigation and negotiating and preparing settlement agreements / deeds including guarantees and indemnities.
The team will work with you to develop your skills in other areas that interact with construction law such as insurance, proportionate liability, equity, security of payment legislation and negligence.
To be considered for this role you do not need to have construction law experience. However, we are looking for someone that is conscientious and versatile, has excellent communication skills (written and oral) and a keen interest in building relationships with clients, and networking which will occur organically.
Your enjoyment of this role will be complemented with your skills and interests including contract drafting and interpretation, contract negotiation, working with clients throughout projects to advise on and prepare claims, notices and advices, dispute avoidance and settlements and only if required and if you are interested, involvement in the development of dispute resolution and litigation / arbitration and briefing of experts and counsel.
